What makes MagnaCut special?
CPM MagnaCut is a powder-metallurgy stainless steel designed by metallurgist Dr. Larrin Thomas and produced by Crucible. It was engineered to combine high toughness, strong edge retention and enhanced corrosion resistance in one blade steel, reducing the usual trade-off between them. TRC heat treats its MagnaCut fixed blades to 62–63 HRC.

MagnaCut was engineered to reduce the usual compromise between edge retention, toughness and corrosion resistance. Its balanced chemistry makes it especially useful where weather, moisture and regular cutting all matter.
TRC selected MagnaCut for POLHEIM, the TRC Mini Drop Point and South Pole MagnaCut. Each model pairs the steel with geometry and heat treatment suited to precise daily and outdoor cutting.

MagnaCut is a third-generation powder-metallurgy stainless steel. Its low chromium-carbide content (replaced by harder, finer vanadium and niobium carbides) delivers stainless behaviour with the wear resistance of a high-carbon tool steel. Published target chemistry: C 1.15 · Cr 10.7 · V 4.0 · Mo 2.0 · Nb 2.0 · N 0.2.
